Leticia Peralta Davis and Carlos H. Cantu Honored at 2004 Don Quixote Dinner
John Rowe of Exelon, David Weick of McDonald's and Ernest Mrozek of ServiceMaster were on hand to host El Valor's 2004 Don Quixote Dinner this past May. The event paid tribute to two distinguished leaders who exemplify the spirit of El Valor - Leticia Peralta Davis and the late Carlos H. Cantu, Sr. The distinguished hosts publicly recognized the contributions made by these special individuals towards the enrichment of children, youth, people with special needs, and the community.
At the Dinner, Rey Gonzalez announced that in memory of Carlos Cantu, the Little Village center would be named the Carlos H. Cantu Children & Family Center. The entire Cantu Family was present for the announcement. Mr. Cantu, former chairman of ServiceMaster and Horatio Alger Award recipient,
was a long-time friend of El Valor.
Ms. Leticia Peralta Davis, CEO of the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority, was awarded the Guadalupe A. Reyes Founder's Award by Univision's Luisa Echevarria and Jesse Reyes, son of El Valor's late founder, Guadalupe Reyes. The Founder's Award is presented in honor of Guadalupe A. Reyes whose compassion and resolve gave hope and inspiration to those most in need.
Funds raised through the Don Quixote Dinner make it possible for El Valor to continue to provide comprehensive early childhood education to 2,000 families; world-class academic support programs to 320 young people; rehabilitation to 700 people with disabilities; associate, bachelors, masters, and doctoral cohort degree programs to 150 working adults; and family education, support, and counseling to all our families. El Valor would like to thank all of our sponsors that made the Don Quixote Dinner a success.
